Vauxhall Zafiras have been recalled for the second time over an engine problem that has caused the cars to burst int flames there are more than 234,000 Vauxhall Zafiras model B that have been recalled again.

Vauxhall has notified owners and produced a full press release saying that it was taking “preventative action” after originally recalling the Zafira B in December as reported by product recalls here.

Vauxhall blamed improper repairs to the car’s blower motor resistor for the and notified the drivers that their cars were dangerous but took a very long time to fix the initial problems.

Vauxhall  advised drivers who had not yet taken their car to be repaired after the first recall to do so and said the latest recall would be sure to address all of the issues with the Zafira B by”improving the overall robustness of the system” rather than simply replacing the resistor and its fuse, which the firm started doing last year.

A Vauxhall spokesman commented saying: “While the current action achieves the objective of returning vehicles to their original condition, after extensive investigations we have decided to go further and improve the overall robustness of the system.

“We will therefore be initiating a second recall to replace the current soldered fuse resistor with a wax fuse resistor so reducing the opportunity for manipulation.

“When the recalls are complete, all vehicles will have a new wax fuse resistor, a new blower motor and a new moulding at the base of the windscreen to address water ingress.”

In December, Vauxhall wrote to all the owners of 234,938 Zafira B and are now informing them again both of the recalls will be free to the car owners.

Vauxhall is hoping that the letters will go out  before August inviting them into dealerships for the second recall drivers who have not yet had the work from the first recall completed should still take their cars to dealerships, Vauxhall said.

London Fire Brigade figures show that so far this year firefighters have attended 14 Vauxhall Zafira car fires.

Since 2013, the Brigade has been called to 120 fires involving Zafiras, more than double the number of the previous four year period (2009-2012).
